Rough Word-by-word:
I will declare [the] decree the LORD he said unto me, "Son of me you [are]. I the day [this] I have brought forth you."
Smooth Translation:
I will declare the decree the LORD said to me, "My son you are. I myself have this day brought you forth."
Note:
Is this (the decree OF the LORD)?
Is this (the decree the LORD said unto me)?
Or is this (the decree. The LORD said unto me)?
Maybe this is a nuance, and maybe it is all three, but I would like to look further into it.

From my brief glance at it, I would say that "decree" and "Lord" are in nouns in construct. Thus, it would be "decree of the Lord." Singular nouns don't necessarily have any ending that indicates they are in construct (plural nouns often, but not always, do).

ReplyDeleteThat was my first thought, but it seems there could be some support for the other renderings.
The LXX follows the view of the two nouns in construct and even goes so far as to repeat Kupios at the start of the next sentence. If we take the two nouns in construct, I think the definiteness of the proper noun allows for the definite article in the object. Greswell also seems to favor this translation. RSV follows it as well.

Young follows the third option and starts a new sentence with "The Lord said unto me..."
